Icelandic writers gain immediate success on Tinder dating app
"Who'd have thought Forlagið Publishing would be advertisin' their Christmas books on Tinder? Bloody hell, that's what I reckon after hearin' about it from our CEO, Egill Örn Jóhannsson," he says, with a chuckle.
Turns out, Forlagið ain't just promotin' their books in newspapers and websites, they're also usin' the dating app Tinder for the giant Christmas sale. Egill found out on his meeting with the marketing advisor this week.
"We're advertisin' worldwide on the web, includin' Google ads and stuff like that, which appear on various webpages and apps. Tinder's one of 'em," explains Jóhannsson. Seems like amidst the sea of love-seekin' individuals, users were also given ads for Forlagið's books.
"Folks on Tinder seem to love our ads, 'cause the success rate is damn near ten times higher than average," Jóhannsson continues. He's gotta hand it to the Tinder team for that one.
An interestin' find was that the authors who were popular on Tinder were Arnaldur Indríðason and Kristín Eiríksdóttir. It'd be funny if that meant Forlagið's books were appealin' to a different demographic than just book-lovers, wouldn't it? Makes you wonder if there's some hidden romance in those ink-stained pages after all.
But then again, it was the older users on Tinder who were showin' the most interest, not exactly the demographic you'd expect on a dating app. Must be that the candles and Mistletoe ads just didn't do it for 'em like Forlagið's books did.
Egill's overjoyed with the Christmas sales this year and the Tinder venture has been a fun and surprise hit. "Says something about Icelanders' love for books, eh? Even beat out board games as the most popular Christmas gifts this year, accordin' to the Icelandic Research Center for Shoppin' and Leisure," he concludes, with a satisfied grin.
Now, if only he understood Tinder better, he might've found matches too! Haha, just jokin'. But seriously, traditional platforms like Facebook might be more effective for reachin' older readers, while Tinder can still be a fun little experiment for younger users.
Something to Keep in Mind:
- Tinder's user base is predominantly younger, which might not be the best fit for older readers.
- Platforms like Facebook and Goodreads cater to a broader age range and are more focused on reading, making them more effective for book advertising.
"In addition to advertising in newspapers, websites, and Google ads, Forlagið is also promoting their Christmas books on social media platforms, such as Tinder. unexpectedly, the success rate for these ads on Tinder is nearly ten times higher than average."
