Ikegami brings UHL-X40 Ultra-Compact 4K-UHD HDR Camera to the spotlight at IBC 2025

The Ikegami UHL-X40, a groundbreaking 4K-UHD HDR camera, is set to make its debut at IBC 2023, on stand 12.A31 in Amsterdam RAI Centre. This innovative device offers operational efficiency and versatility, with features similar to Ikegami's UNICAM XE studio camera series, allowing easy intercuts between these models.

The UHL-X40 is equipped with three high-quality, 2/3-inch CMOS UHD sensors with a global shutter pixel architecture, ensuring minimal artifacts when televising flash/strobe-illuminated stage environments. This feature, combined with optical vignetting correction and remote back focus, similar to the UNICAM-XE camera series, promises superior image quality.

The camera's CCU-X40 control unit can deliver a simultaneous downconversion of the full 3840 x 2160 resolution UHD frame plus a 1920 x 1080 native cutout of the central area. HDR (ITU-R BT.2100) and BT.2020 color reproduction are accessible as standard on the UHL-X40, ensuring accurate and vibrant colours.

The UHL-X40 connects to its CCU-X40 control unit via up to 10 km of duplex single-mode fibre, making it ideal for robotic studio operation, remote broadcasting, sports events, and point-of-view video capture. The control unit itself is compact in size (145 mm wide, 145 mm high, and 173 mm deep) and light in weight (2.6 kg), further enhancing its versatility.

Digital and optical zoom can be used in combination on the UHL-X40, with digital zoom from 1.1 to 10.0 times magnification accessible via the camera menu or the optional RM-71F remote controller. Precise focus-assist is achieved by placing the edge components of the 4K image on a separate HD monitor.

The UHL-X40 shares dual optical filter wheels with five positions each for separate control of neutral density and color correction filters with the UNICAM-XE camera family. Additionally, the camera head measures 120 x 128 x 112 millimeters and weighs 1.1 kilograms, with low power consumption of 28 watts, 12 volts DC.

The UHL-X40's vertical image inversion function is particularly useful for applications such as theatre-stage outside broadcasting where upside-down overhead suspension is easier than traditional mounting. The lens mount on the UHL-X40 is B4, the industry standard for high-end, 2/3-inch broadcast cameras.

More information about the UHL-X40 can be found at www.ikegami.de. The UHL-X40's performance parameters include F11 sensitivity at 2160p50 and a signal-to-noise ratio of 62 dB, indicating high-quality video capture.

In summary, the Ikegami UHL-X40 is an ultra-compact 4K-UHD HDR camera designed for professional applications, offering superior image quality, flexible deployment, and space efficiency. Its debut at IBC 2023 promises to be a significant event for the broadcast and production industry.
