India Lands Chandrayaan-3 on Moon's South Pole, Adds to Impressive Space Journey

India, a global leader in space exploration, has successfully landed the Chandrayaan-3 mission on the Moon's south pole region on August 23, 2023. This remarkable feat adds another milestone to the country's impressive space journey, which began over four decades ago.

India's space odyssey started with the launch of its first satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975. The Indian National Satellite System (INSAT) series, launched in 1983, revolutionised the nation's telecommunications landscape. A significant step was taken on July 18, 1980, when ISRO successfully launched the Rohini satellite using the Satellite Launch Vehicle-3 (SLV-3).

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was established on India's Independence Day, August 15, 1969, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, often referred to as the father of India's space program. ISRO has since evolved into one of the world's most respected space agencies, achieving numerous milestones. On September 24, 2014, ISRO's Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) made India the first country to reach Mars on its maiden attempt. This was followed by the launch of a record 104 satellites in one mission by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) on February 15, 2017.

India's space program continues to make history, with the recent Chandrayaan-3 mission being a testament to its growing prowess. As the country prepares to celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, it can take pride in its achievements in space exploration, which have placed it among the elite group of nations with advanced space capabilities.
