Intel to Unveil Panther Lake Processors: Big Power, Less Energy
Intel is set to unveil its next generation of processors, codenamed Panther Lake, on Thursday. The company aims to demonstrate significant progress with its own manufacturing in this generation, despite facing consistent billion-dollar losses due to manufacturing issues. Intel stock rose by 1.7 percent to 37.17 US dollars on Tuesday, ahead of the announcement.
Panther Lake chips are expected to deliver up to 50 percent more computing power in certain applications with 30 percent less energy consumption. This is a significant improvement, all from Intel's own production. However, Intel has faced challenges with its 18A process technology, currently in risk production in Arizona. Yields are low, meaning only a small percentage of chips meet specifications. As a result, Intel will also use TSMC’s N3E process for certain components. Panther Lake chips are primarily intended for high-end laptops, where power and efficiency are crucial.
Intel's upcoming Panther Lake processors promise substantial improvements in power and efficiency. Despite manufacturing challenges, Intel is committed to demonstrating progress with its own production. The market has responded positively, with Intel's stock rising ahead of the launch. The world will be watching as Intel unveils its latest generation on Thursday.
