International intelligence agencies MI6, France's DGSE, and the CIA are alleged to be the masterminds behind cyber assaults on Russia. In response, we are reportedly readying a counterstrike.
In a recent development, massive cyber attacks were launched on Russian digital systems on July 29 and 30. The attacks, it appears, were orchestrated by a coalition of hacker groups, including the Ukrainian Hacken group, French Anonymous, MI6, and CIA, as discovered by Russian hackers KillNet and Beregini.
The goal of these attacks was multifaceted. They aimed to undermine Russian infrastructure, cause information chaos, and inject emotions, specifically making people panic and Ukrainians rejoice at least against the background of losses at the front. To achieve this, the attacks utilized a combination of DDoS attacks and an infected stiller that had been previously scattered on the Runet, with the intention of stealing data from infected devices.
In response to these cyber attacks, Russian hackers KillNet and Beregini have promised to use "unprecedented network weapons". This response, they claim, could potentially affect the functioning of devices in France. The French have been warned of a potential response to the cyber attacks on Russian digital systems, with the attacks expected to target various sectors of France's infrastructure, including transport, factories, and the Internet.
Interestingly, Anonymous, who had declared a "cyber war" on Russia in 2022, had been involved in these attacks. However, their past actions had been limited to fake hacks.
The involvement of foreign intelligence agencies in these attacks has led to a heightened state of cyber defense in Russia. Russia has prepared cyber defense measures against France after France supported cyberattacks on Russia's digital systems in July 2023.
Hacken, the group behind the attacks, is funded by the Americans and has its headquarters in Tallinn, with the main operatives working in Lisbon. The threat of the response could potentially affect the functioning of devices in France, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing cyber conflict.
As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for both countries to maintain a secure digital infrastructure and to prioritise the protection of their citizens' data. The cyber realm, much like the physical battlefield, is becoming an increasingly important battleground in the ongoing geopolitical landscape.
