Introducing FacePay by Boldswitch: a groundbreaking method for offering gratuities through facial recognition technology

In a groundbreaking move, Nigerian fintech company Boldswitch has introduced FacePay, a new feature on their app that allows users to tip individuals by simply taking a photo of their face. This innovative solution, set to change the future of payments in Africa, is mobile, biometric, and personal, as Boldswitch believes it will enhance easy payments across the continent.

FacePay, officially released in March 2023, does not require account numbers, QR codes, or conversations. In the coming weeks, no card, cash, or phone will be required for purchases in stores using FacePay. This means that users can send tips to waiters, taxi drivers, security guards, or online creators, as long as the recipient has a Boldswitch account.

The process of sending tips using FacePay is seamless and secure. Facial recognition technology is used to match a captured image to a registered user, instantly transferring the selected amount. This enables frictionless, anonymous tipping, making spontaneous generosity effortless.

Glad Akhison, CEO of Boldswitch, stated that FacePay is designed to make giving feel natural and human again, removing the awkwardness of asking for account details. He further explained that FacePay was inspired by a real-life encounter where tipping a service worker was difficult.

Boldswitch is extending FacePay to merchants, allowing customers to complete purchases in physical stores using facial recognition. The company believes that by blending convenience with innovation, FacePay will revolutionise the way payments are made across Africa.

To experience FacePay, users can visit www.boldswitch.ng. FacePay is now live on the Boldswitch app, ready for users to revolutionise their payment habits. The larger vision of Boldswitch includes FacePay being used for purchases in physical stores, marking a significant leap in the digital transformation of African payments.
