Latest findings reinforce the likelihood of Samsung's 'Galaxy Z Trifold' device becoming a reality
Samsung's highly-anticipated Galaxy Z Trifold is gearing up for a launch in October 2025, according to multiple reliable sources. The South Korean tech giant has been teasing this innovative tri-fold device since early 2025, with rumours and leaks pointing towards an October launch window, a few months after the July Unpacked event where Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7.
The Galaxy Z Trifold, which has been registered under the name "Galaxy Z Trifold" in South Korea, might officially be known as the "Galaxy Z Trifold" or "Galaxy G Fold" based on trademark registrations and leak indications.
This unique smartphone is set to redefine the boundaries of foldable technology, boasting a tri-fold design that folds into three sections. This innovative design offers more flexible and larger screen possibilities than current foldables, aiming to combine smartphone portability with tablet productivity.
When unfolded, the internal screen is expected to be around 10 inches OLED, offering a significant increase in screen real estate. The exterior compact size, roughly 6.49 inches, allows the device to function as a smartphone when folded.
The Galaxy Z Trifold is expected to share some components with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, such as the hinge mechanism, speaker drivers, and cutouts, which may help reduce production costs and enhance durability. Samsung is reportedly focusing heavily on the tri-fold’s user experience and durability due to the complexity of the multi-fold mechanism.
The device is rumoured to be a limited-quantity, possibly region-limited release, with an exclusive and premium positioning. It is anticipated that the Galaxy Z Trifold will be a part of the Galaxy Z series and will feature two hinges.
One UI 8, the device's operating system, includes a warning animation about folding the device, emphasising Samsung's commitment to ensuring the device's durability.
In a recent press interview, Samsung's acting head of the device experience division, TM Roh, confirmed that the company is expected to launch the tri-fold phone within this year. However, Roh also mentioned that Samsung has not finalized a name for the tri-fold yet.
The left and right panels of the device are of different sizes, with the smaller left panel needing to be folded first. The device might be slightly thicker than Huawei's tri-fold Mate XT.
Interestingly, TECNO has unveiled the Phantom Ultimate G Fold concept, which might have beaten Samsung to the release of a tri-fold device.
