Lime Faces 12 Injury Claims as London Cyclists Sue Over 'Faulty' E-Bikes
Electric bike hire operator Lime is facing 12 compensation claims from London cyclists who have been injured due to 'faulty' e-bikes. The claims, pursued by law firm Osbornes Law, include serious injuries such as broken bones and brain injuries. Lime has not commented on the open legal matter but expressed sadness over the incidents.
The law firm Osbornes Law is leading these claims, stating that the incidents could have been avoided if the bikes had been in working order. One claimant, Elliot Poole, suffered a head injury and memory loss after the saddle of a Lime bike fell off, causing a crash. Sam Collard, lead for cycling claims at Osbornes Law, has seen a steady influx of such cases in the past few months. A London-based doctor reports seeing at least one Lime-related injury patient per week, typically involving lower limb injuries.
Lime's CEO Wayne Ting previously defended the company's safety record, stating they perform quality checks on every bike before it goes out. However, Mr. Poole, who used to be an avid user of Lime bikes, now believes they are not maintained well enough. Despite these claims, Lime's usage increased by 74% during London's Tube strikes, with 28% of Londoners more likely to cycle in the future.
