LMT Defense Secures $92M USSOCOM Contract for 6.5 Creedmoor Rifles

LMT Defense has secured a significant 10-year contract with the U.S. Special Operation Command. The deal, worth up to $92 million, involves the production of 6.5 Creedmoor-chambered rifles in Eldridge, IA. These rifles, featuring 14.5-inch barrels and based on LMT's Modular, Ambidextrous, Rifle System, will be used by the Marine Corps and Special Operations.

The contract, awarded on Aug. 20, includes medium-range gas gun-assault kits, spare parts, accessories, new equipment training, and engineering change proposals. The ammunition required for these rifles totals 17,367,760 cartridges. Meanwhile, Black Hills Ammunition has been awarded a separate $40 million contract to supply 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges, with completion scheduled by August 2030.

LMT Defense has a proven track record internationally. Recently, the company secured a contract with the Swiss armed forces for firearms chambered in various calibers. However, there is no public information suggesting that Swiss arms manufacturers are currently collaborating with LMT Defense under a contract concluded at this time.

The 10-year contract with the U.S. Special Operation Command is a significant win for LMT Defense. The production of these rifles and the associated equipment and training will support the Marine Corps and Special Operations. The contract also demonstrates LMT Defense's capability to handle large-scale, long-term projects, further solidifying their position in the defense industry.
