Luno Pay Expands Crypto Payments in South Africa, Offers Rewards
Luno Pay, a cryptocurrency payment platform, has expanded its services in South Africa. It now offers rewards to users and has partnered with MoneyBadger for nationwide merchant integration. This move signals a significant step in cryptocurrency adoption in the country.
Luno Pay users can now earn up to 10% back in Tether (USDT) when paying with USDT at nationwide merchants. This expansion is facilitated by payments partner MoneyBadger, enabling seamless integration with existing payment infrastructure. Major retailers like Checkers, Makro, Vodacom, and Shoprite now accept crypto payments through Luno Pay.
The expansion has been substantial. Luno Pay now includes 650,000 Scan to Pay merchants and 30,000 Luno Pay merchants, totaling over 680,000 merchants. Since its launch in November 2024, Luno Pay has processed over 48,000 payments across more than 1,600 merchants, with a transaction volume of over R28 million. Notably, 70% of Luno Pay users are repeat customers, indicating the platform's growing popularity.
Luno Pay's expansion marks a significant milestone in cryptocurrency adoption in South Africa. With rewards for users and wide acceptance among major retailers, it is set to become a popular choice for crypto payments. The partnership with MoneyBadger has facilitated this growth, making crypto payments more accessible and convenient for consumers.
