Maheshwari Steps Down as CEO of ALLEN Digital After a Two-Year Tenure
New CEO Leads ALLEN Digital's AI-Powered Learning Revolution
Abha Maheshwari, a former Meta executive, has made a significant mark in the Indian education sector as the first CEO of ALLEN Digital, the digital arm of ALLEN, a renowned test-preparation and education company. Maheshwari took the helm in May 2023, at a time when interest in artificial intelligence was gaining momentum.
Before joining ALLEN Digital, Maheshwari spent a decade at Meta (formerly Facebook), where she held leadership roles in product development, partnerships, and commerce. Notably, she was instrumental in scaling Instagram Shopping at Meta. Her impressive background in the tech industry proved invaluable as she integrated artificial intelligence and machine learning into ALLEN Digital's learning platforms.
One of her most notable achievements was the launch of a biology bot for conversational learning, integrated with AI-driven question-answering from Doubtnut. This innovation has revolutionised the way students learn and interact with educational content.
Under Maheshwari's leadership, ALLEN Digital underwent significant technological expansion and team growth. The digital division, which started as a small co-working space team, transformed into a significant business entity, reporting INR 3,245 crore revenue in FY24, a 42 percent rise from the previous year.
However, despite the revenue growth, profit fell by 44 percent to INR 136 crore in the same year. Maheshwari announced her departure with a LinkedIn post, indicating she would be taking a short break before moving on to her next chapter.
The leadership team at ALLEN Digital during her tenure included Ankit Khurana, Saurabh Tandon, and Apoorv Sharma. Khurana spent a decade at Flipkart, Tandon also came from Flipkart, and Sharma joined from Apple and departed in May 2025. Other team members at ALLEN Digital came from companies such as WhatsApp, Google, Amazon, and Meta.
The parent company of ALLEN Digital received a USD 600 million investment from Bodhi Tree Systems in May 2023, further boosting the company's growth trajectory.
Maheshwari stepped down as the CEO of ALLEN Digital in August 2025, marking the end of her leadership period at the company. Her departure leaves a significant legacy in the Indian education sector, as she has paved the way for the integration of artificial intelligence in learning and the growth of digital-first educational products.
