Ibrahim Diallo, a savvy programmer, runs his own little server, and he knows all too well that his traffic is mostly bots lurking on the internet. Some of these bots are harmless, but some can be real headaches, trying to sneakily hijack his system with malicious attacks or pesky probes. Diallo's blog post tells us he fights back with a zip bomb.

This defensive strategy works like a fuse on a stick of dynamite. When Diallo detects a suspicious bot, his server responds with a 200 OK and then drops the bomb – a compressed file that the bot tries to open, only to be hit with a tsunami of data. Most simple bots won't be able to handle it and will choke, while some advanced ones might still be standing but with a serious headache.
