The audio industry has a new contender in the multi-room hi-fi arena, with McIntosh unveiling its latest product – the CR106 pre-amp and audio matrix. This high-end device is designed to cater to audiophiles and high-end home installers who desire precise, flexible multi-room audio control, all within a luxurious design and the proven McIntosh sonic quality.
The CR106 is a 6-zone preamplifier and audio matrix that offers control over up to six independent audio zones from a single unit. With the ability to network multiple CR106 units via Dante, a 30-two-channel zone setup can be created, making it an ideal choice for expansive homes or commercial spaces.
Each of the six zones comes equipped with two sets of stereo outputs and dedicated subwoofer outputs, providing maximum flexibility. For connectivity, the CR106 offers four unbalanced analog inputs and four digital inputs, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of amps and speaker configurations, including in-wall and in-ceiling speakers.
For wireless streaming, the CR106 supports Bluetooth with aptX HD and aptX Adaptive, ensuring high-quality audio transmission. Control options are diverse, with the McIntosh Connect app (available for iOS and Android), a web interface, or manual front panel controls all at your disposal.
The CR106 also offers a host of features for customising your audio experience. You can turn zones on and off, adjust audio settings, balance for each zone, configure subwoofers, group zones, and set specific EQ voicings for each zone. The McIntosh Connect app even allows users to save "experiences" for easy recall of input selection and settings.
Priced at approximately £6,999 / $5,500 / €7,499 EUR (around AU$14,345), the McIntosh CR106 will be available through authorized dealers starting August 2025.
