MediaBrands undergoes leadership shakeup: Magna Global Mediaplus CEO departs, with a key figure from the organization stepping in as successor
In the media world, uncertainty looms as the merger of US holdings Interpublic and Omnicom casts a shadow over the future of MGMP. As the existing contract nears its expiration, various options are being evaluated for the time ahead.
This merger has already brought about changes and uncertainties for local management at IPG Mediabrands, with notable figures like Diana Degraa, CEO of Initiative, clearing their desks. Lennart Harendza, the current CEO of MGMP, is among those departing on September 30, 2021.
Petra Gnauert, CEO of IPG Mediabrands DACH, has praised Harendza's contributions to MGMP, acknowledging his significant impact on the company. Gnauert's words echo the sentiments of many, as Harendza's leadership has been instrumental in steering MGMP through challenging times.
Thorsten Schulz, a seasoned media professional with over 20 years of experience at the Hamburg media agency Initiative, is expected to take over the reins at MGMP starting September 1, 2025. Schulz, who returned to the group as Managing Director at MGMP in 2017, brings "comprehensive expertise, deep market understanding, and a clear view" to lead MGMP.
Schulz's return to MGMP wasn't his first stint with the company. He had previously served as CEO before stepping down in 2015 to focus on private interests. Now, he is set to return, ready to navigate the uncertain waters ahead.
Meanwhile, Matthias Brüll, a professional associated with Medienspielplatz, is also in a state of transition. After his contract expired, various options are being considered for his future involvement, including potential contract renewals or new role arrangements.
IPG Mediabrands DACH, which bundles the media business of the US holding Interpublic, includes Initiative and UM, as well as the performance-focused network Kinesso, which employs over 13,000 specialists in media, marketing, communication, and technology in more than 130 countries worldwide.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, MGMP and IPG Mediabrands are poised to adapt and thrive under the leadership of Thorsten Schulz. The future may be uncertain, but with Schulz at the helm, there is a sense of optimism and anticipation for what lies ahead.
