Mercedes-AMG has created a performance-centric GT model aimed at reclaiming the Nürburgring lap record from Porsche.
Mercedes-AMG Concept GT Track Sport: A New Contender for the Track Record
The automotive world is abuzz with anticipation as Mercedes-AMG prepares to unveil its latest performance project - the Concept GT Track Sport. Scheduled for official unveiling in September 2025, the Concept GT Track Sport is set to push AMG's performance boundaries and expand the AMG GT lineup.
This track-focused vehicle is currently undergoing final development and testing, with a V8 twin-turbo engine powering its way through the testing phases. The Concept GT Track Sport is designed to compete with top track cars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with a focus on delivering impressive track record lap times.
The production version of the Concept GT Track Sport is expected to return to a strict two-seat configuration and add significant aero and performance hardware. If produced, deliveries may begin in 2026, with the price expected to be similar to the GT Black Series' starting price around $325,000.
The Concept GT Track Sport will be road-legal and not a track-only special. It will likely feature a 9-speed automatic transmission, limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension, and massive carbon-ceramic brakes. Power figures for the Concept GT Track Sport are expected to exceed the 720 horsepower of the previous Black Series.
However, whether the Concept GT Track Sport will include hybrid assistance is currently unknown. What is known is that it will be powered by a V8 engine, most likely Mercedes' twin-turbo 4.0-liter setup. The tires on the Concept GT Track Sport will be Michelin street-legal, with the Cup 2 R suspected.
The Concept GT Track Sport is being developed as a homologation special for AMG's upcoming next-generation GT3 race car. Its goal is to "set new standards and record times" at the Nürburgring, aiming to surpass the lap record held by Porsche's 911 GT2 RS. The current Nürburgring production car record is 6:43.3, held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey kit. The previous AMG record at Nürburgring is 6:48.047, set by the GT Black Series.
The Concept GT Track Sport features a heavily camouflaged prototype with a massive swan-neck rear wing and aggressive front splitter for improved aerodynamics. The vehicle is designed for high-speed performance on race tracks, with the aim of setting the Nürburgring production car record.
Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the 2025 Munich Motor Show, where the Mercedes-AMG Concept GT Track Sport is expected to make its grand debut on September 8, 2025.
