Mercedes-Benz Unveils New Electric GLC, Boasting Rapid Charging and Impressive Range
Mercedes-Benz is set to launch a new electric GLC model next year, marking a significant step forward in the company's electrification strategy. The new electric GLC will be a key contender in Europe's most competitive new car segment, offering approximately 260 km (about 162 miles) WLTP range and ultra-fast DC charging capabilities.
The electric GLC will be the first model to use the Mercedes-Benz Electric Architecture (MB.EA), a new design language that will be adopted across the rest of Mercedes-Benz's range in the coming years. This new architecture will also form the basis of the upcoming electric C-Class.
The electric GLC's 94.5kWh battery provides up to 435 miles of range in its most efficient form, making it a significant player in the electric SUV market. It supports an 800V electrical system, which optimizes charging speed and efficiency, allowing it to charge about 260 km of range in around 10 minutes.
In comparison, the plug-in hybrid Mercedes GLC 350e offers a much shorter electric-only range of up to 54-60 miles (approximately 87-97 km), but it supports DC fast charging up to about 60 kW, allowing an 80% charge in roughly 30 minutes.
The new BMW iX3, due to be released in 2025, offers a range roughly comparable to the electric-only Mercedes GLC, generally around 250-280 miles WLTP, with charging speeds up to about 150 kW DC fast charging depending on the model variant and charger availability.

The electric GLC's charging speed is significantly faster than the BMW iX3 and substantially faster than the GLC 350e PHEV. However, the electric GLC's range is somewhat shorter than the typical BMW iX3's, but it excels in ultra-fast charging capability. The plug-in hybrid GLC 350e offers much shorter pure electric range but can use gasoline for extended driving.
The new electric GLC is the successor to the discontinued EQC SUV and will go on sale in early 2026. With its rapid charging capabilities and impressive range, the electric GLC is poised to be a strong contender in the electric SUV market.
