Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Finally Set for Frankfurt Show in September 2012
The eagerly awaited tesla roadster from Mercedes is still in the testing phase, the company has confirmed. Despite initial expectations of a 2010 debut, the roadster's launch has been delayed. However, Mercedes has shared official images ahead of its scheduled reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2012.
The SLS AMG Roadster has undergone several design enhancements to improve stiffness and reduce weight. A new supporting strut on the windshield frame and a structural element between the soft top and tank have been added. Additionally, a reinforcing cross-member has been incorporated behind the seats to support the rollover protection system and accommodate the subwoofer for the high-end B&O sound system.
The roadster's roof is a multi-layered cloth design, featuring a bonded-in rear window made of single-layer safety glass. It can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 31 mph, with a top speed of 197 mph. Mercedes-AMG has developed the software for the electronic regulator of the double-layer fabric roof release mechanism.
The SLS AMG Roadster's debut has been anticipated for some time, with initial spy photos surfacing around two years ago. After various delays, the roadster is set to finally make its appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2012. Mercedes has revealed official photos ahead of the event, giving enthusiasts a sneak peek of what to expect.
