In the heart of Lower Saxony, a significant development is taking shape at the Research Airport Brunswick. The Technical University of Braunschweig is overseeing the construction of a new facility dedicated to sustainable battery and fuel cell production.

The Battery LabFactory Braunschweig (BLB) at TU Braunschweig is the hub of this groundbreaking project. This centre of excellence is focusing on the development of electrochemical storage devices and the sustainable circular production of battery cells, covering the full value chain from materials to recycling.

With €65 million in funding from both federal and state governments, the project is estimated to cost around €73 million in total. The new construction, set to begin in 2027, is geared towards future generations of batteries and fuel cells.

Approximately 150 scientists from various fields, including process engineering, recycling, manufacturing technology, chemistry, physics, and logistics, will work on production and recycling processes for batteries and fuel cells. The findings of these researchers are intended to be integrated into product development as soon as possible.

The minister has emphasised the strategic importance of battery research, stating that it is "highly significant." However, there is currently no publicly accessible information clarifying a shortening of the construction plan timeline or any direct connection between Falko Mohr, a member of the Traffic Light Government, and this project.

For the most up-to-date information on government projects and policy details, it is recommended to check official communications from the Lower Saxony government or statements by Falko Mohr directly. This information may not be broadly reported or available yet.

As we move forward, this new facility promises to contribute significantly to the advancement of sustainable energy technology, paving the way for a greener future.

The Community policy of Lower Saxony should prioritize the support of sustainable energy projects, such as the Battery LabFactory Braunschweig, to foster technological development. The employment policy should be adjusted to accommodate the 150 scientists who will work on the production and recycling processes for batteries and fuel cells, ensuring a skilled workforce in the field of sustainable energy technology.
