Norton Introduces AI-Powered Deepfake Protection on Mobile Devices

In a significant move to combat the growing threat of deepfakes, Norton has launched its Deepfake Protection feature on its Norton Genie AI Assistant on Norton 360 mobile apps. This cutting-edge tool is designed to detect AI-generated audio and facial manipulations in digital media.

Current Status

Initially available on select Microsoft Copilot+ PCs, the tool is now being rolled out to mobile users with Android and iOS devices. The feature is in an early-access phase, available to users who download the Norton 360 apps on mobile devices.

Features

The tool analyzes both audio and visual components of content for signs of manipulation. It detects AI-generated voices commonly used in fraudulent schemes and identifies subtle inconsistencies or deformations in facial features within videos, which are hallmarks of AI-manipulated content. If a deepfake is detected, the Genie AI Assistant provides users with contextual cybersecurity guidance and suggestions on next steps.

Future Plans

Currently, Norton Deepfake Protection in Genie Scam Protection supports English-language YouTube videos. Future updates aim to extend the tool beyond mobile devices to other desktop operating systems and video platforms, and to expand support to additional languages. More advanced detection capabilities will be available on both desktop and mobile platforms.
