BMW is gearing up for the launch of two new vehicles in the second half of next year: the electric i3 sedan and the new 3 Series sedans. The i3 sedan, scheduled for a 2026 debut, promises to be a significant addition to BMW's electric vehicle lineup.

The i3 sedan will share a similar design with the gasoline sedan, with the key difference being a longer nose to accommodate an inline-six engine. From a distance, it will be difficult to distinguish the electric i3 from the combustion-powered 3 Series. The i3 sedan will not feature the taller grille found on BMW's SUVs, as confirmed by the company.

The i3 sedan prototype, recently spotted in Munich, showcases several unique features. The front headlights of the i3 sedan are designed to be closer in appearance to the concept's look, while the taillights, though uncamouflaged in the prototype, may not resemble the show car's rear lights, which sat unusually high. The taillights, when fully unveiled, may be as wide as those on the Vision Neue Klasse concept.

The i3 sedan also boasts flush doors, a design element that will play a key role in boosting aerodynamic efficiency. The prototype was also seen with the intricate snowflake-like wheel designs, a fresh addition to BMW's lineup.

Interestingly, the i3 sedan prototype was spotted with a right-hand-drive layout, even though it was in Munich. This could suggest that BMW is considering global markets for the electric sedan.

The i3 sedan will be built at the BMW Group Plant in Munich, Germany, just like the new version of the electric BMW i3, set to launch in the second half of 2026. BMW has already previewed the new light signatures on the 2023 Vision Neue Klasse and the 2024 Vision Neue Klasse X concepts, hinting at the design direction for the i3 sedan.

The i3 sedan will also feature a design different from the iX3, including longitudinal kidneys that flow into the headlights. The front parking sensors are present on the i3 sedan prototype, further indicating its readiness for production.

The i3 sedan is expected to be a game-changer in BMW's electric vehicle lineup, offering a sleek design, improved aerodynamics, and the latest in BMW's innovative technology. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the 2026 launch.
