Zeam, a streaming platform specializing in local TV news, has announced the acquisition of NewsOn from Sinclair Broadcast Group. This strategic move positions Zeam to cover all 201 designated market areas across the U.S., significantly expanding its reach in local TV markets [1][2][3].

The acquisition aligns with Zeam's broader business model, which encompasses two main pillars. The B-to-B division supports live streams for a host of clients, while the consumer-facing platform shares revenue with its partners [1][2][3]. With NewsOn on board, Zeam strengthens its consumer platform by integrating comprehensive local news content nationwide, reinforcing its emphasis on live, hyper-local content [1][2][3].

Zeam aims to increase revenue for local stations through digital ad inventory management. Discussions with Samsung, LG, and other connected TV manufacturers are underway to enhance the standing of the Zeam platform on the home-page hub of smart TVs, boosting visibility and monetization [1].

The acquisition also bolsters Zeam's capability to deliver dynamic, location-targeted advertising, thereby strengthening the role of local journalism in American communities with scalable, cost-effective streaming solutions [3].

Since its first Super Bowl advertisement in 2024, Zeam has served up more than 4 billion dynamically inserted ads for partners [3]. On the consumer front, Zeam offers revenue-sharing deals with partners, with Zeam handling all of the streaming ad inventory sales [3].

Zeam's technology was used for the "Destination Comedy" event featuring comedian podcasters Mike Young and Bret Ernst [3]. The platform also handles the backend technology for the live streams of all CBS-owned stations and the live streams of CBS affiliates on Paramount+ [3].

The acquisition of NewsOn comes as Sinclair Broadcast Group is exploring strategic alternatives for its station group and possibly other assets [4]. Sinclair had previously invested in the NewsOn platform and recruited other stations to use it [5].

Jack Perry, CEO of Zeam, emphasized that device-based distribution is becoming a bigger factor for the distribution and revenue-generating potential of FAST channels [2]. He also highlighted that Zeam is expanding as a consumer-focused entertainment platform with an emphasis on live local content [6].

In summary, the NewsOn acquisition substantially advances Zeam’s strategic objectives by expanding its national local TV streaming presence, enriching content offerings with trusted local news, and reinforcing its technology platform that enables broadcasters to generate additional digital revenue and create original local content [1][2][3].
