Nissan Unveils Updated Leaf with Improved Interior, Tech
Nissan has revealed the new Leaf, its popular electric vehicle, with updates to its interior and technology. The 2023 Leaf brings a more conventional cabin but still lags behind competitors in terms of interior design trends and quality.
The new Leaf's interior features a physical speedometer and screens displaying journey, energy, assistance, and entertainment facts. However, it appears dated compared to other cars, despite using decent materials in prominent areas. Cheap, hard-plastic elements and unlined storage bins are present.
The steering wheel now telescopes, improving adaptability. The drive selector, however, can be confusing due to its routing. All models come with an 8-inch infotainment screen and standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The rear passenger space is adequate but lacks foot-room under the front seats. The cabin is practical but not the roomiest, with perceived quality lower than that of competitors like the Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona Electric.
The top-spec Tekna trim offers a Bose sound system. Boot space is average for mid-size hatches, with 385 litres up to the parcel shelf or 1,167 litres with the rear seats folded, but there's no spare wheel and the folded backrest leaves a stepped floor. The seats are comfortable and supportive, matching the laid-back driving style encouraged by the powertrain.
The 2023 Nissan Leaf brings improvements to its interior and technology. Despite its dated appearance and some quality issues, it remains a practical and comfortable electric vehicle option. Nissan continues to develop and manufacture electric vehicles, joining other major automakers like BMW, Mercedes, Rivian, and General Motors in the electric vehicle market.
