Nordex Unveils Cold-Climate Wind Turbine N175/6.X in Canada
The Nordex Group has revealed a new wind turbine model, the N175/6.X, in Canada. This turbine is designed to excel in cold environments, featuring an advanced auto anti-icing system and boasting impressive energy production capabilities.
The N175/6.X is equipped with the Nordex Advanced Auto Anti-Icing System, which significantly reduces ice-related downtime and ensures consistent performance even in harsh, icy conditions. This system includes automatic ice detection and control mechanisms that safely shut down the turbine to allow rotor blades to thaw before restarting autonomously.
The turbine, with a 575-foot (175-meter) rotor and a rated output of up to 7 MW, delivers higher energy production in low to medium wind conditions. At such locations, the N175/6.X achieves between 7 and 14 percent more yield compared to its sister models, the N163/5.X and N163/6.X.
Designed to operate in low-temperature environments, the N175/6.X has a functional range down to -30°C (-22°F). It can be equipped with a bat module and on-demand night-time marking, and it has an operational lifetime of 25 years, extendable to 35 years depending on site conditions.
The Nordex Group's new N175/6.X wind turbine, with its advanced auto anti-icing system and high energy production capabilities, is set to make a significant impact in cold climate wind energy generation. With an operational lifetime of up to 35 years and the ability to operate in extreme low temperatures, this turbine is a robust and efficient solution for harsh environments.
