It's full speed ahead for Ocean Winds' BC-Wind project in the Polish Baltic Sea as P&Q steps up to construct the onshore substation!

This onshore substation, slated to be built in the Choczewo municipality, will integrate seamlessly into Poland's national power system. The substation will be encapsulated with a power transformer, which will boost the voltage from the offshore substation's 275 kV to a sturdy 400 kV.

Kacper Kostrzewa, Managing Director of Ocean Winds in Poland, expressed their commitment to local development, stating, "As a global investor, we focus on nurturing the local supply chain and shaping the Polish wind market."

Ocean Winds recently partnered with CRIST Offshore to deliver the offshore substation for the BC-Wind project. The offshore substation is currently in the design phase, with an anticipated deployment taking place in mid-2027.

Hitching a Ride on the Wind Energy Wave

The project is set to blossom approximately 23 kilometers north of Choczewo and Krokowa in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, spanning across two construction sites.

The sites received grid connection conditions in September 2020, followed by a grid connection agreement in March 2021. In the same year, the developer completed Environmental Impact Assessment surveys for the wind farm, and in June 2021, the project secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) from the Energy Regulatory Office.

Last year saw the completion of geophysical and geotechnical surveys in both the wind farm area and the export cable corridor.
