Osnabrück's 'Aufmerksamkeit in Verkehr' Campaign Targets Phone Use While Driving
The Police Directorate of Osnabrück is set to launch a week-long traffic safety campaign, 'Aufmerksamkeit in Verkehr', from October 6th to 12th. The primary focus will be on combating the use of mobile phones while driving, with both car drivers and cyclists under scrutiny. The goal is to raise awareness and enforce violations, with checks throughout the week.
The campaign is part of the ROADPOL network, a collaborative effort among EU member states' traffic police forces to reduce serious traffic accidents. Using a mobile phone while driving will incur a fine of 100 euros and one point in Flensburg for car drivers. Cyclists face a 55 euro fine for the same offense. In case of danger or an accident, the fine can increase to 150 or 200 euros, with two points and a one-month driving ban. Other distractions such as eating, drinking, smoking, or operating radio/navigation devices can also lead to accidents and will be targeted during the campaign. The previous offense rate stands at around 45 percent, indicating a need for increased vigilance.
The Police Directorate of Osnabrück encourages all road users to prioritize safety and minimize distractions during the campaign and beyond.
