Vauxhall's Electric Streets of Britain Campaign Continues to Drive EV Adoption
Vauxhall's Electric Streets of Britain campaign, launched in 2023, is making significant strides in the UK to improve electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, particularly for the 40% of households without driveways that rely on public charging facilities.
The campaign, which is still ongoing, has partnered with Zoopla, a leading name in the property industry, to help EV drivers find homes with convenient EV charging access. By integrating charging availability into property searches, the partnership aims to support EV adoption and make decisions about buying and renting a new home easier for millions across the country.
In addition to Zoopla, Vauxhall works with leading charging operators such as char.gy, Connected Kerb, and SureCharge to implement and expand on-street charging points nationwide. The campaign has also established a national database (electricstreets.co.uk) where UK motorists can register their need for on-street residential EV chargers. This data is shared with local authorities to inform and prioritize charger installation.
As a result, over 12,000 streets across the UK have been identified as needing on-street EV charging under the initiative. This is particularly important given the rapid growth in EV ownership and a 34% year-on-year increase in EV registrations. However, only 1.6% of property listings mention EV charging, a gap that this campaign seeks to address by raising awareness among property agents and buyers.
Steve Catlin, managing director of Vauxhall, stated that "moving house is a significant decision and finding charging access for EVs will become increasingly important for many people." Vauxhall is committed to electrifying Britain and is working hard to make on-street charging accessibility a reality for all.
