PFLA clinches Innovative Community Recognition Award
Pasture-Fed Livestock Association Wins Innovative Community Award
The Pasture-Fed Livestock Association (PFLA) has been recognised for its innovative approach to meat traceability and community development, winning the Innovative Community award in the Farm491 Agritech Innovation Awards.
The PFLA's innovative system involves the use of QR codes on the packaging of certified beef and sheep farmers. Scanning the QR code provides consumers with details about the farm and animal the meat came from, promoting transparency and honesty in the meat supply chain. This system has been a significant advancement in the industry, enhancing consumer confidence and supporting farmers in accessing niche markets.
The association, which currently boasts about 150 certified farms and over 900 members, focuses on community development by certifying farms under the Pasture For Life brand. This brand requires strict standards that emphasise high animal welfare, natural diet, and wildlife-friendly fields. The PFLA provides marketing initiatives and promotional support to its members, helping them distinguish their products from more intensive farming methods.
Russ Carrington, Development Manager of the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association, collected the award on behalf of the organisation. He expressed that receiving the award makes the PFLA feel that they are doing something right. Russ also stated that it has been hard work getting the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association to its current state.
The awards ceremony was opened and closed by Royal Agricultural University (RAU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Jo Price. The awards were sponsored by patent and trademark attorneys Wynne-Jones IP. Being part of Farm491, a rural enterprise hub in Cirencester, was described by Russ Carrington as refreshing and exciting.
The PFLA received a prize money of £750 with the award. This money will be used towards the further development of the Pasture-Fed Livestock Association's community of farmers and butchers. The article was published on January 17, 2017.
The PFLA also received recognition for the use of online platforms for communication and knowledge exchange, as well as the growth of its membership. The association has great hopes for attracting more members over the coming months and years.
