Pi Network Unveils Rust SDK, Launches Global Hackathon to Boost Smart Contract Development
Pi Network, a trailblazing blockchain project, has revealed its Rust Software Development Kit (SDK) to simplify smart contract development. The Pi Hackathon, a global developer competition, has been launched to promote the new SDK and inspire innovative commercial applications.
The Rust SDK, patterned after the Stellar Soroban Rust SDK, is designed to expand Pi Network's developer base and enhance the utility of the Pi token. It is type-safe and async-first, offering a range of tools and libraries for streamlined contract development.
The SDK relies on a host environment comprising Rust crates that manage resource accounting, fee application, on-chain storage interaction, and WebAssembly interpretation. It includes specific smart contract functions like cryptographic hashing, signature verification, persistent storage, and invocation of secondary contracts. The SDK's CLI tool enables compiling, testing, inspecting, and deploying contracts directly from local workstations, with a local test mode for debugging.
The launch of the Rust SDK and the Pi Hackathon are strategic steps towards a more functional and innovative Pi ecosystem. The hackathon offers significant rewards, with 75,000 Pi for first place, 45,000 Pi for second, 15,000 Pi for third, and 5,000 Pi for honorable mentions. These initiatives aim to attract global developers and solidify Pi Network's position in the blockchain space.
