PlayStation 6 outshines PlayStation 5 Pro, claims significant insider disclosure

The PlayStation 6 (PS6), the highly anticipated next-gen console from Sony, is rumored to launch in late 2027 or early 2028, according to various reports and leaks. The console, codenamed Orion, is said to run at a minimized power output, offering a significant performance upgrade over the PS5.

According to reports, the PS6 is expected to be around three times more powerful than the current PS5, with triple the rasterization power of the base model and about 50% more powerful than the PS5 Pro. This power boost aims to deliver 4K gaming at 120 FPS with enhanced ray tracing, balancing high-end performance and affordability.

Backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 games is also expected, making the PS6 a versatile choice for gamers. The console's launch price is anticipated to be roughly the same as the PS5's launch price, around $499, not the PS5 Pro's price.

In addition to the PS6, Sony is also rumored to be working on a new handheld device, codenamed Canis. This portable gaming device is said to be more powerful than the Xbox Ally X and priced closer to the Nintendo Switch 2, around $400-$500. Key features reportedly include a USB-C port with video output capabilities, microSD card slot, M.2 SSD slot, touchscreen, haptic vibration, and dual microphones. The Canis handheld is expected to be compatible with PS4 and PS5 games, hinting at a device that could enhance portable PlayStation experiences.

It is likely that we will learn more about both the PS6 and the Canis handheld in the coming months. The information about the PS6 comes from a leaked AMD presentation from 2023, as reported by the YouTube channel Moore's Law is Dead. However, it's important to note that these details are based on early leaks and insider reports and should be treated as preliminary until Sony confirms official specifications and release dates.

The PlayStation 6 (PS6) is speculated to offer a significant performance upgrade over the PS5, boasting triple the rasterization power of the base model and about 50% more power than the PS5 Pro, largely due to its advanced technology. The upcoming console is rumored to have backward compatibility with both PS4 and PS5 games, making it a versatile option for gamers who wish to enjoy a wide variety of titles.
