Posco Opens New EV Drive Motor Core Plant in Poland
Posco International has inaugurated its new electric vehicle (EV) drive motor core plant in Brzeg, Poland. The opening ceremony saw the attendance of Posco's CEO Lee Kye-In, Opole Governor Monika Jurek, and South Korean Ambassador Tae Jun-Yeol.
The EUR 57 million facility has an annual output capacity of 1.2 million motor cores. It will commence trial production in October, with full commercial production starting in December 2023.
Posco has secured global orders for 35 million drive motor cores by 2033, including 1.68 million units for European-made Hyundai and Kia EVs. The company expects to generate annual revenues of KRW 1.5 trillion (US$ 1 billion) from these sales by 2030.
Posco Group aims to secure a 10% share of global EV drive motor core sales by 2030, with an annual production capacity of 7.5 million units. The company has contracts with European car manufacturers like Volkswagen and BMW for drive motor core supplies until 2033.
Posco's new plant in Poland will produce drive motor cores using Hyper NO steel and EMFree technology, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing noise and vibration in EVs. With its global orders and ambitious targets, Posco is poised to become a significant player in the EV market.
