Residents of Saxony Encouraged to Contribute to Identifying Mobile Network Dead Zones

Beginning next week, citizens of Saxony have the opportunity to participate in a nationwide campaign that aims to identify dead zones in the mobile network. Economic Affairs Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) urged residents to participate in the mobile network measurement week, which runs from Monday to Sunday.

The campaign, initiated by the Federal Network Agency, is aimed at creating a more accurate picture of mobile network coverage across Germany by collecting data from a large number of participants. Participants can contribute by using their smartphones and an app provided by the Federal Network Agency to record the mobile network coverage in their area during their daily activities.

According to Minister Panter, Saxony has already achieved a high level of mobile network coverage, with 98.80% coverage for the fourth generation (4G/LTE) mobile network and 96.06% for the fifth generation (5G). However, experiences in people's daily lives will now be given more focus as part of this week-long measurement campaign.

"Take part! Use your holiday, your commute to work, or your shopping trips, and check your mobile network," Minister Panter called on the residents of Saxony. The data collected will help improve the quality of mobile network coverage in rural regions and areas with challenging topography.

The data collected will be anonymous and fed into the "Gigabit-Groundbook" of the federal government's dead zone map, providing insights that can help improve mobile network coverage. This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to improve connectivity in remote areas and ensure reliable coverage for all citizens across Germany.

While the exact details of the "Mobile Network Measurement Week in Saxony" aren't specified, these types of campaigns aim to assess the quality and coverage of mobile networks by conducting drive tests and collecting crowdsourced data. This information helps identify areas with poor or no coverage, which can lead to improvement strategies such as installing new cell towers or upgrading existing infrastructure. By participating in these campaigns, citizens can contribute to enhancing connectivity and ensuring better service in their communities.
