Prologis to Produce Overwhelming 82 Megawatts of Energy from Rooftop Solar Panels
Prologis Launches 1.56 MW Community Solar Project in Illinois
Prologis, the industrial real estate giant, has initiated a rooftop solar project at a warehouse in Franklin Park, Illinois, marking the first step in a larger effort to expand solar across northern Illinois. This project is part of a larger portfolio of 45 rooftop community solar projects that Prologis aims to develop over the next two years, making it the largest rooftop community solar portfolio in northern Illinois.
The 1.56 MW community solar installation, located atop a 195,000 sq. ft. Prologis logistics center, will primarily serve residential customers, with a minority benefiting local businesses. Importantly, more than half of the energy credits from the entire portfolio will be allocated to income-qualified households, expanding access to clean energy in underserved communities around Chicago and beyond.
Prologis is collaborating with Illinois utility ComEd and SunVest Solar on this initiative. ComEd is providing support for the project's development, while SunVest Solar designed the Franklin Park 3 rooftop installation.
Prologis is deeply invested in distributed energy resources, including rooftop solar, battery energy storage, and OnDemand Power. The company is on track to reach 1 gigawatt of rooftop solar and energy storage by the end of 2025, with 82 MW coming from northern Illinois alone.
