Raspberry Pi Raises Prices Due to High Demand for AI Memory

Raspberry Pi, the renowned single-board computer, has revealed price hikes for certain products due to the high demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI applications. CEO Eben Upton disclosed a 120 percent rise in memory costs over the past year, driving these changes.

The Raspberry Pi 500's price has increased by $10 to $100, while the Raspberry Pi Development Kit for Compute Module 5 has risen by $5 to $135. The Compute Module 4's price has reversed its May reduction, with the 4 GB variant up by $5 or 11 percent, and the 8 GB version rising by 12 percent. The Raspberry Pi 3B+ has also seen a $5 increase to $40.

The Compute Module 1's price has decreased by $5 to $25. Products with 1 GB and 2 GB memory remain unaffected, as they use lower-density memory with less pronounced market impacts. Upton assures customers that the company has sufficient supplies of lower-density memory chips to last until 2026.

Raspberry Pi has adjusted its pricing to reflect the current memory market reality and surging demand for HBM. The company plans to reverse these price increases once memory prices return to their long-term downward trajectory.
