🌐 YAKUTIA.INFO. The number of smart home devices hooked up to MegaFon's network has skyrocketed by over 200% in the last three years. Russians are jumping on board with technologies that boost comfort and security in their homes, as evidenced by the consistent demand for smart gadgets and the increases in traffic consumption.

📈 The connection of smart devices to the operator's network via a SIM card has gone up by 23% in the last 10 months compared to 2023, and the total traffic growth over the last two years has been an impressive 126%. The volume of traffic consumed by one device is also on the rise. Last year, an average smart SIM card churned through 5 GB, but from January to October 2024, this figure has already reached 8 GB and continues to climb due to the rising demand for smart cameras and security systems that transmit vast amounts of data.

🏠 Home Sweet Smart Home. There's a trend in the smart home segment of devices being grouped around a central hub that lets you manage the entire home and connect devices for data exchange. Most often, a smartphone serves as this hub, which can connect smart devices from various manufacturers that transmit data through different channels. Another popular device around which other devices are congregated is smart speakers. According to data from MegaFon's joint retail network and Yota, their share of sales from the total number of smart home gadgets is a whopping 84%. Among other categories of devices, products for comfort and security, such as sockets, lights, video cameras, and various sensors, are in the lead. Home appliances come in third place in sales rankings.

📊 In terms of traffic distribution, 50% of all devices consume up to 1 MB per month. These devices typically operate on the principle of receiving incoming requests (calls or SMS) rather than mobile internet, and include various access control systems such as barriers and electronic locks. Another 38% of smart devices consume up to 50 MB, and less than 12% consume more than this.

👨‍🦳 Who's Bossing the Smart Home? Among smart home owners in the Far East, those aged 35 to 44 years make up 45% of the total. Men are more likely to utilize such devices - a staggering 81% of subscribers. The highest number of smart home gadgets is connected by subscribers in the Khabarovsk Krai, which amounts to over a quarter of the total number of devices in the operator's network in the Far East. The second place went to Primorye (22%), and the third place is occupied by the residents of Buryatia (16%). Smart assistants are less popular among the residents of Magadan, Sakhalin, and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast.

❗️ *"We anticipate that the demand for smart home devices will keep growing, as will the need for stable and uninterrupted connectivity for them. MegaFon offers customers several cost-effective solutions for device connection to the network. The first is specialized tariff plans with a fixed fee. The minimum tariff for devices with low consumption includes 2 GB, 100 minutes, and 100 SMS per month for 150 rubles. The second is making a smart device not only a part of the home but also a part of the MegaFamily, so it will consume traffic from the organizer's package," - says the director of the B2C products department, Andrei Egorov.

🔑 To sum up, the rise in smart home device usage in Russia is a clear reflection of growing digital infrastructure, high internet penetration, and expanding software and automation markets. As expected, smart security cameras, voice-controlled speakers, and automation apps are the most popular devices, all driven by consumer demand for convenience, security, and energy efficiency. Younger and urban demographics dominate usage patterns, supported by strong mobile broadband penetration and increasing digital engagement.

This trend mirrors global smart home market growth projections, suggesting that broader acceptance and integration of IoT technologies into Russian households is on the rise.
