Samsung abstains from levying fees for Galaxy AI usage on Android devices.

In a recent confirmation to Android Police, Samsung has made it clear that all default Galaxy AI features that come pre-installed on Galaxy devices will remain free indefinitely, beyond the initial commitment to keep them free until the end of 2025 [1][2][3][4]. These features include Live Translate, Writing Assist, Interpreter, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, Browsing Assist, Photo Assist, Drawing Assist, Audio Eraser, Object Eraser, Generative Wallpapers, and others integrated into Galaxy phones.

While Samsung flagship models like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 offer a 6-month free trial of Google's Gemini Advanced AI with extra storage, any costs related to Gemini Advanced beyond the trial are controlled by Google and separate from Samsung’s default AI features [1][2].

Samsung has indicated that although the default Galaxy AI features will stay free "forever," there might be future offerings of premium or subscription-based AI capabilities combining Samsung’s and Google’s AI advances, providing unrestricted access to generative AI tools, which could require payment [1][2]. However, no official paywall or subscription for core Galaxy AI features is currently planned.

The confirmation provides clarity about the uncertainty surrounding the Galaxy AI features regarding how long they would be free. It also shuts down speculation that Samsung could start charging for this AI suite of features by the end of 2025.

Interestingly, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are the only devices that will receive the Google AI Pro subscription at no cost for six months. Google has unveiled new Gemini features for the foldables, including Google AI Pro subscription for six months at no cost. However, Google's new Gemini features for the foldables are not available for other Galaxy phones at this time.

The Galaxy AI features, including Live Translate, Note Assist, Zoom Nightography, Audio Eraser, Browsing Assist, and Generative Wallpapers, will remain free on Galaxy phones like the Galaxy S25 series. The Google AI Pro subscription is not currently available for the Galaxy Watch 8 series.

In summary, Samsung will not charge for the core Galaxy AI features beyond the current free commitment, but advanced AI capabilities might be monetized via separate subscriptions in the future [1][2][3][4]. This approach is in contrast to Google's approach with some paid AI subscriptions like Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscriptions. Samsung has not yet put any paywalls for its popular Galaxy AI features.

| Aspect | Details | |----------------------------|-----------------------------------------------| | Default Galaxy AI features | Free forever, no charges planned | | Examples | Live Translate, Note Assist, Audio Eraser, etc.| | Gemini Advanced feature | 6-month free trial on new flagships; payments after trial controlled by Google | | Potential paid options | Possible future subscriptions for advanced AI features, not currently implemented |
