Saxony-Anhalt Police Targets Distracted Drivers in ROADPOL 'Focus on the Road' Week

Saxony-Anhalt State Police is preparing for the European ROADPOL 'Focus on the Road' enforcement week, taking place from October 6 to 12, 2025. This statewide operation targets drivers of cars and trucks, as well as cyclists, aiming to reduce the use of electronic devices while driving. Last year, nearly 4,900 vehicles were inspected, leading to 120 citations for illegal electronic device usage.

The campaign will also emphasize other road safety aspects, including the use of headphones, proper cargo securing, and correct child restraints. Interior Minister Dr. Tamara Zieschang highlights the danger of distractions, particularly from smartphones. She warns that at 50 km/h, a driver is distracted for one second, covering 14 meters, and at 120 km/h, it's approximately 36 meters.

The police will be on the lookout for drivers using their phones, wearing headphones, or failing to secure their cargo and children properly. Last year's figures reveal the extent of the problem, with 120 violations found in nearly 4,900 inspections. However, there are no available data specifically for the city of Magdeburg during the 2025 ROADPOL enforcement week.

The Saxony-Anhalt State Police's involvement in the 'Focus on the Road' campaign aims to make roads safer by minimizing distractions. Drivers are encouraged to avoid using electronic devices, wear appropriate ear protection, secure their cargo, and ensure children are safely restrained. The campaign takes place from October 6 to 12, 2025, and police will be vigilant in enforcing these rules.
