Second Season of The Rings of Power Introduces Another Significant Ring-Bearer

In the upcoming second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, we'll be introduced to Ben Daniels as Círdan, a significant new character crisscrossing Middle-earth. If you remember, he made a brief appearance in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, but this time, he's stepping up as a major player.

Círdan, a.k.a Círdan the Shipwright, is one of the oldest elves on Middle-earth and serves as the harbormaster of the Grey Havens, a vital port city for elves seeking to sail westwards to Valinor. Known as a bridge between the elves' presence in the West and the rest of Arda, Círdan held considerable influence over his kind during Tolkien's chronology.

Despite his wisdom, Círdan's warnings against the creation of the Rings of Power and their mysterious benefactor, Annatar, went unheeded. But when Sauron revealed himself as Annatar and war broke out in Eregion, Círdan was chosen, alongside Galadriel and Gil-Galad, to bear one of the three rings meant for the elves. Eventually, he handed Narya, the ring of fire, to Gandalf the Grey during the Third Age, recognizing him as one of the Maiar.

While the enrichment data doesn't specify Círdan's role in the war between Sauron and the elves in the second season, it is noteworthy that all three elven rings will be with their bearers. A shot in the first season's trailer highlighted Galadriel, Gil-Galad, and Círdan's hands as Middle-earth's trees bloomed with vibrant life.

Parallel to Daniel Weyman's mysterious Stranger, who is presumed to be Gandalf himself, Círdan's presence in the elven storyline offers an intriguing parallel. In addition, Círdan will share the screen with Elrond, who will play a crucial role in the series' portrayal of the war between the Elves and Sauron. As Robert Aramayo, who plays Elrond, said, "He's absolutely fascinating and so unique."

Catch the action when Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Amazon Prime on August 29. After all, it's all about those damn rings! So buckle up and prepare for an epic journey!
