Skoda Introduces Plug-in Hybrid Kodiaq, Boasts Electric Range Over 100km
Skoda Kodiaq Hybrid Model Scores Top Sales Rank with Dual-Power Source Upgrade
The Czech automaker, Skoda, has added a new variant to their successful midsize SUV, the Kodiaq. The latest edition features a plug-in hybrid powertrain, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for environmentally-friendly vehicles.
Asserting a powerful presence in Skoda's SUV lineup, the new Kodiaq measures 4.76 meters in length, positioning it within the premium midsize class. Its dimensions surpass the slightly pricier, all-electric Enyaq by approximately 10 centimeters. The new plug-in hybrid setup complements the vehicle's stance.
Skoda's new powertrain equips the Kodiaq with a battery twice the size of its predecessor (25.7 kW), allowing the internal combustion engine to be switched off for distances exceeding 100 kilometers on electric power alone. This technology is also shared with the longer Skoda Superb sedan.
The manufacturer has now adopted the "double heart" principle, previously considered a niche, with the well-served Kodiaq benefiting from both electrical and petrol systems. Under the hood, a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine is paired with an electric motor, creating a combined output of around 204 horsepower.
Interest in the new Kodiaq is increasing, particularly among professional commuters requiring minimal electrical power for their weekend journeys. With a home charging box, the battery can be fully charged in 2.5 hours, or in just 25 minutes through a 50 kW fast charger.
The total combined power equals that of the powerful all-wheel petrol engine, providing impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. However, the vehicle's top speed may not appeal to electricity professionals, capping out at 210 km/h.
Skoda has modernized the Kodiaq's design, boasting extended bodywork, projecting a more aggressive and powerful image. The rugged vertical lamellae on the grille and the two-story headlight eyes provide a more contemporary and high-tech appearance.
The interior has also been revamped, with the gearshift lever relocated to the steering column, echoing VW's ID models. A 12.9-inch central display manages navigation, apps, and touchscreen controls, while three rotary switches manage climate and heating functions manually.
The new Kodiaq promises a smoother ride despite meticulous soundproofing. Occupants will notice the 1.5-liter engine during acceleration or steep uphill driving, but the mild hybrid system contributes positively to the vehicle's performance and refinement.
For enthusiasts, the top models deliver an engaging driving experience via all-wheel drive, electronic damping, responsive steering, and flawless brakes. The plug-in hybrid version presents the most exciting proposition for the new Kodiaq's edition.
Further engine options include 1.5 TSI, 1.0 TSI, 2.0 TSI RS, 2.0 TDI, and a diesel variant. Pricing for the plug-in hybrid model starts at €48,530. With rivals such as the Enyaq and Peugeot 5008 PHEV looming in the market, the new Skoda Kodiaq Plug-in Hybrid is poised to make a strong impact.
Engaging in the growing trend of eco-friendly living, the new Skoda Kodiaq Plug-in Hybrid caters to those seeking a hybrid lifestyle, offering an electric range of over 100km that makes it an ideal choice for professional commuters. As technology advances, this vehicle embodies Skoda's commitment to adopting new energy policies within their community, aligning with modern trends in both lifestyle and sports.
