Soaring profits observed annually at Games Workshop, primarily driven by robust sales of their flagship Warhammer game series
Games Workshop's Strong Performance and Warhammer Adaptation Update
Games Workshop, the UK-based company known for its premium fantasy miniatures and popular franchises like Warhammer, has reported a 30% increase in annual pre-tax profit, reaching 262.8 million pounds for the year ended June 1, 2025. This growth was largely due to robust sales of the Warhammer 40,000 game.
Despite the positive financial performance, the company is facing challenges related to tariffs and exchange rates. The tariffs are expected to have a 2% impact on Games Workshop's gross margin in the following year, translating to an approximate 12 million pounds impact on its pre-tax profit in the current fiscal year. However, Games Workshop remains optimistic, stating that it's "business as usual."
The flagship science-fiction universe of Warhammer is set to be brought to screens via a live-action series from Amazon Studios. The project, which has Henry Cavill, a dedicated Warhammer fan and British actor who played Superman, attached as both star and executive producer, continues under a long-term partnership between Games Workshop and Amazon.
However, the development of the series remains in its early stages. As of July 2025, the series has not yet entered production, and there are reports that Amazon faces a deadline—around one month—to finalize creative guidelines with Games Workshop or risk losing the rights to make Warhammer 40K films and television shows.
Potential storylines for the series include the Eisenhorn series or The Horus Heresy saga, but no official plot details or cast beyond Cavill have been revealed. Games Workshop has expressed confidence in Amazon's commitment to representing the Warhammer 40K universe authentically and at an epic scale, acknowledging the considerable challenge due to the franchise's vast lore and complexity.
Meanwhile, Games Workshop's Space Marine 2 video game, released last September, has been a commercial success with over 7 million copies sold. The company is also investing in its Memphis base in the US, reflecting its global ambitions.
Shares of Games Workshop were up 4.1% at 15,880 pence by 0816 GMT, indicating a positive outlook from investors despite the challenges. Peel Hunt analysts expect Games Workshop's strong performance to continue, despite the tariffs, a stronger pound, and a tough comparative period.
