South Korean Robotics Firms Make Waves with Innovative Solutions
South Korean robotics companies are making waves with their latest innovations. URobotics' humanoid robot recently mingled with commuters in Seoul's bustling Gangnam district, while Diden Robotics is revolutionizing shipbuilding with its wall-climbing robots.
URobotics CEO Yu Byeong-ho hailed the Gangnam commuting event as the first step towards complete autonomous walking for robots. The company's humanoid robot navigated the crowded streets using a 'blind' walking control system, developed by Eurobotics, which allows it to move independently without cameras or lidar. This groundbreaking technology will be officially presented at the Humanoids 2025 conference on October 1.
Meanwhile, Diden Robotics is tackling labor shortages and advancing automation in the shipbuilding sector. CEO Junny Kim aims to lead this transformation with the company's customized wall-climbing robots. These robots can scale metallic walls and ceilings, reaching hazardous or inaccessible areas for humans. Diden Robotics successfully tested this technology at Samsung Heavy Industries' site, demonstrating its practical applications in real-world settings.
Both URobotics and Diden Robotics, originating from KAIST, are commercializing innovations that could reshape workplaces and city streets. URobotics' autonomous walking technology and Diden Robotics' wall-climbing robots showcase the potential of these startups in addressing labor challenges and improving efficiency.
