A WordPress Support Engineer is a crucial role in a remote-first, international working environment, providing technical assistance to users of WordPress websites and plugins. The primary focus of this role is to troubleshoot issues, reproduce and document bugs, and collaborate with development teams to improve the product.
Job Description
As a WordPress Support Engineer, you will be responsible for providing timely, professional technical support for WordPress, plugins, and server environments, often via a ticket system like Help Scout. Your duties will include troubleshooting bugs, crashes, conflicts, and performance issues, reproducing and documenting bugs for developers, assisting customers with plugin setup, configuration, and customization, and writing and updating user-facing documentation. You will also test new releases and features before deployment and monitor site uptime, performance, and security as needed.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate for this role should have proven experience in WordPress technical support roles, strong knowledge of WordPress core, PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and sometimes React. Ability to debug using browser tools and error logs is essential. Familiarity with server environments (Linux, SSH), CI/CD, Docker, and agile tools (e.g., Jira) is advantageous. Excellent written English communication skills, problem-solving skills with a customer-first mindset, and the ability to work independently are also required.
