Drone Spectacle Unfolds in Düsseldorf, Germany - Staggering aerial display unfolds in Düsseldorf, featuring colossal unmanned aircraft

The Düsseldorf Rhine Festival, running until July 20, is set to add an exciting new element to its lineup this year. A spectacular drone show, scheduled for two performances on July 18 and 20, will illuminate the festival grounds before the traditional fireworks display.

The drone show, which will be the largest in Germany, will feature over 1,000 drones, each a pixel in the sky. These flying lamps can represent any colour and will be synchronized to music, forming giant sculptures in the air.

The first performance on July 18 will see the drones depict Düsseldorf's landmark, the Ferris wheel, while the second performance on July 20 will showcase the Rhine Tower. Both shows will last around 20 minutes and will be partially different.

Sven Gerling, managing director of St. Sebastianus Veranstaltungs GmbH, clarified that the drone show is not a replacement for the traditional fireworks but an addition meant to attract additional visitors. He also stated that "no fireworks" is not an option for the Rhine Festival.

The drones used in the show are custom-built for drone shows, featuring compact and lightweight designs for agility and maneuverability. They are equipped with programmable LED lights that can change colour and intensity, and sophisticated software and hardware to synchronize flight paths and lighting displays across all drones. Safety features such as collision avoidance systems and emergency shutdown protocols are also incorporated.

The drone show is expected to attract around four million visitors over the ten event days, as per the city of Düsseldorf. The dimensions of the show will reach up to nearly 300 meters in height, 150 meters in width, and 80 meters in depth, resembling those of a "flying shopping center" as described by Jan Ising.

The Rhine Festival, located on the left bank of the Rhine, directly opposite the old town, features exhibitors from Germany. The second performance of the drone show is planned for July 18 at 10:15 PM, immediately before the traditional fireworks. The drones will take off from the Rhine meadows in front of the fairgrounds, and over 80% of the show will be visible from all sides.

The fireworks are not being removed from the Rhine Festival schedule and are planned for the coming years, ensuring that the traditional spectacle remains a cherished part of the festival. The Düsseldorf Rhine Festival promises an unforgettable experience with its unique combination of traditional celebrations and modern technology.

The drone show, an addition to the Düsseldorf Rhine Festival, will not replace the traditional fireworks but will attract visitors from various sectors, including technology enthusiasts who might be interested in the latest gadgets. The first representation of the drone show will be a replica of Düsseldorf's iconic Ferris wheel, while the second performance will showcase the Rhine Tower, both adorned with synchronized lights that create giant sculptures in the air, similar to pixels in a digital canvas.
