In the heart of Wuppertal, the city known for its unique suspension railway, sports facilities are undergoing a transformation. The renovation of artificial turf pitches has become a summer project, with the Riedelstraße sports field and SSV Sudberg leading the way.

The Riedelstraße sports field, built in 2002, had been the city's oldest artificial turf pitch. However, after two decades of use, it was due for a much-needed upgrade. The initial phase of the renovation involved the demolition of the old surface, followed by the replacement of the entire elastic base layer, which did not meet the current standard of 35 millimeters. New goals were also installed, and the new surface is a fully sand-filled artificial turf of the latest generation.

Meanwhile, the SSV Sudberg sports field began its renovation on June 24. The estimated costs for this project were around 350,000 euros. To avoid any disruptions in match and training operations, the renovation was carried out during the summer break. Despite the challenges, the wish to complete the renovation during this period was fulfilled, and the scheduled timeframe was adhered to.

As for the Uellendahl district sports facility, the conversion of the clay court into an artificial turf pitch is set to follow shortly. The details of this project, including the timeline and costs, are yet to be announced.

For precise and current updates on artificial turf renovations in Wuppertal, especially at SSV Sudberg and Uellendahl sports facilities, it is recommended to consult the official Wuppertal city website, the local sports clubs’ communications, or to contact the city’s sports department directly.

It's worth noting that in June, the sports field Am Freudenberg had already received a new artificial turf surface. The renovation work on these facilities underscores Wuppertal's commitment to maintaining high-quality sports infrastructure for its residents.

Access roads for construction vehicles at the renovation sites were very narrow, posing a significant challenge. Nevertheless, the city's Sports and Baths Department has managed to navigate these obstacles effectively, ensuring the smooth progress of the renovation works.

As the summer continues, the sports fields of Wuppertal are undergoing a metamorphosis, promising improved playing conditions and a renewed spirit for the city's sports enthusiasts.

The renovation of the Riedelstraße sports field, the city's oldest artificial turf pitch, includes the installation of a new fully sand-filled artificial turf of the latest generation, following the demolition and replacement of the elastic base layer that fell short of the current 35 millimeters standard. In line with this, the SSV Sudberg sports field is currently undergoing a renovation, which involves a 350,000 euros investment, aiming to complete the project during the summer break without disrupting ongoing matches and training sessons.
