Surprising Xbox Game Pass sequel released unexpectedly in Early Access on Xbox and PC, marking the arrival of this substantial endeavor.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers and PC gamers can now get their hands on the highly anticipated sequel to Descenders, titled Descenders Next. The game, developed by RageSquid and published by No More Robots, is available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, the Xbox PC app, and Steam, with plans to release on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in the future.
Descenders Next was initially scheduled for release on April 9 but was delayed to incorporate playtest feedback. The game is now available in Early Access and Xbox Game Preview, with updates planned over the next two years to reach a "1.0" state.
The game features procedurally generated open-world maps with four different biomes, offering a unique and dynamic gaming experience. Descenders Next focuses on boarding sports, with snowboarding and mountainboarding available at launch. The developers aim to deliver "the ultimate extreme sports game" to its fans, with plans to add new environmental biomes, multiplayer modes, and official mod support, as well as new sports like skiing.
Descenders, the original game, was widely praised for its controls, simulated physics, and procedurally generated maps and courses. It sold over 30 million copies and was the eighth most-played title on Xbox Game Pass in 2020 after being added to the service.
In a move to make the game more accessible, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is offering 1-month memberships for $10.19, providing a discount on Microsoft's service. Descenders Next can also be purchased on Xbox, the Xbox PC app, and Steam for $29.99.
