TCL Unveils the QM8K Mini-LED TV: A Promising Upgrade with Enhanced Features and Superior Performance

TCL has officially announced the launch of its highly anticipated flagship Mini-LED TV for 2025, the QM8K. This innovative TV promises to stand out against competing models with its array of impressive features.

Contrary to initial expectations, the QM8K is not an 8K model but a 4K LCD TV with a remarkable 144Hz refresh rate. It serves as the successor to TCL’s QM851G, boasting a new panel, "ZeroBorder" design, and improved audio system provided by Bang & Olufsen.

Customers can purchase the QM8K today at participating retailers in sizes ranging from 65 inches to 85 inches, starting at $2,499. The 75-inch and 98-inch models are set to debut in June.

TCL has equipped the QM8K with a superior VA panel, designed to address the off-axis viewing issues that are common in many TVs with Mini-LED backlighting. The WHVA (Wide Horizontal Viewing Angle) panel relies on sophisticated subpixels, eliminating the widely reported poor angled viewing issues of previous Mini-LED TVs.

Furthermore, the QM8K boasts a new "Precise Dimming" Mini-LED system designed to enhance HDR content. This technology improves contrast and minimizes lag between Mini-LED zones, particularly noticeable in Game mode.

Though it remains to be seen whether the QM8K will secure its place among the best gaming TVs, the 144Hz refresh rate and its potential to ramp up to 288Hz in 1080p resolution suggest it could well become a contender. The exceptionally thin border of the QM8K is also sure to impress, giving the visual illusion that the screen is floating in front of viewers.

One of the standout features of the QM8K is its minimalist "ZeroBorder" design. With a 3-4mm border, the screen appears floating when wall-mounted, creating an aesthetically pleasing effect.

In addition to its design and base specifications, the QM8K offers more to delight consumers. TCL and Bang & Olufsen have collaborated on an enhanced sound system that utilizes up-firing speakers with Dolby Atmos support, aiming to provide an immersive audio experience.

FlexConnect, a new feature available exclusively on the QM8K, promises to simplify the entertainment setup by enabling seamless integration of FlexConnect-supported speakers throughout the living room, delivering expert surround sound directly from the TV.

Best Buy is currently selling the TCL QM8K Mini-LED TV, available in both the 65-inch and 85-inch models. The 75-inch and 98-inch variants are set for official release in June.

While the TCL QM8K carries a high price tag at $2,499 for its 65-inch model, it faces competition from budget alternatives like Hisense’s U8QG, which is available for $1,397 on Amazon.
