Telecom giant Telefónica and tech titan Microsoft deepen partnership, aiming to boost adoption of Open Gateway technology via Kernel collaboration.

In an exciting development for the telecommunications industry, Telefónica and Microsoft have announced a collaboration aimed at accelerating the adoption of Open Gateway and Kernel. The collaboration was announced at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) by Chema Alonso, the chief digital officer of Telefonica.

The collaboration will see the integration of Open Gateway and Kernel into Microsoft's Azure Marketplace. This move will enable other companies to embrace the technology and reduce the time-to-market for new digital services. Alonso expressed pride in the achievements of Kernel and its readiness for new opportunities like Open Gateway.

The evolution of Kernel includes a collaboration with Microsoft for the conceptualization, design, development, and industrialization of new components and solutions based on Generative AI and advanced analytics capabilities. The migrated Kernel capacities aim to help mobile operators simplify their digital transformation processes and accelerate the adoption of Open Gateway.

Paco Salcedo, the president of Microsoft Spain, emphasized the partnership's potential to accelerate the adoption of Open Gateway and Kernel in the telecommunications industry. The collaboration will potentially benefit the Open Gateway community by providing easier access to Microsoft's resources for the development of new capabilities and solutions.

The joint work will facilitate the Open Gateway community's access to Microsoft's ecosystem of partners, developers, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), innovation centres, and research hubs worldwide. The new components and solutions will be developed on Azure, making them part of Microsoft's offering to operators and other players in the telecommunications industry.

The collaboration also encompasses a joint "Go-to-Market" strategy to make digital services based on the Telefonica Kernel platform available to other operators, developers, and telecommunications companies. This strategy aims to extend beyond the scope of Telefónica's platform, offering advanced user experiences and augmented decision-making.

The new capabilities aim to simplify the development of features for non-technical skills, making it easier for companies to adopt and integrate these technologies into their operations. The presentation at MWC titled 'Open collaboration to innovate' will offer further insights into the integration and adoption of Open Gateway with Kernel. Alonso will provide more details on the integration and accelerate the adoption of Open Gateway with Kernel in his presentation at MWC on Monday at 10:45.

Telefónica and Microsoft have a history of collaborating on various projects, particularly leveraging Microsoft Azure for data processing and analysis to manage huge data requirements. This latest collaboration is another step in their ongoing efforts to enhance digital transformation capabilities, data management, and AI-driven solutions in the telecommunications industry.

Data-and-cloud-computing makes an appearance in this collaboration between Telefónica and Microsoft, as the integrated Open Gateway and Kernel will be available on Microsoft's Azure Marketplace, enabling other companies to streamline their digital transformation processes. Additionally, the joint effort will leverage artificial-intelligence through the evolution of Kernel, incorporating Generative AI and advanced analytics, with the goal of helping mobile operators accelerate their Open Gateway adoption.
