In today's bustling streets and roads, speed bumps are a common issue among drivers. These road humps are designed to slow down traffic and improve road safety, but they can sometimes cause concern for car owners.

Juan José Ebenezer, a mechanic who addresses driving habits on TikTok, offers some advice to help drivers navigate speed bumps without damaging their vehicles. The key, he says, is softness in approaching them.

When approaching a speed bump 50 meters away, start decelerating little by little. This gradual reduction in speed will prevent a strong inclination or wear on the pads or any other damage. After passing over the speed bump, gradually accelerate progressively to ensure a smooth ride.

Jorge Herrero, another mechanic, agrees with Ebenezer's approach. He adds that taking speed bumps very softly and avoiding sudden braking, sudden acceleration, or taking them very abruptly helps prevent damage to the entire car.

The impact of a speed bump on a vehicle depends on its size and the size of the vehicle. Not all speed bumps are the same; homologated plastic speed bumps that are screwed on usually respect certain limits. With normal use and in the presence of homologated speed bumps, there's no reason to fear major damage to the car.

The car, considered a pillar of modern mobility, has suspension arms and shock absorbers. This movement that occurs when going over speed bumps also happens in other driving situations, such as normal circulation, going over small curbs, or crossing fields with potholes.

However, braking and subsequent acceleration when going over speed bumps put a strain on the engine and the general suspension. The suspension's up and down movement is affected by speed bumps, and the area that comes into direct contact with the speed bump suffers compression and stretching of the suspension.

The specialist's message aims to reassure drivers about the proliferation of speed bumps on streets and roads. With these tips in mind, drivers can circulate with total peace of mind in areas where there are many speed bumps. So, the next time you encounter a speed bump, remember to approach it gently, and you'll be on your way without a hitch.
