Toyota Launches Hilux Champ Super SWB: Compact, Affordable Thai Workhorse
Toyota has launched the Hilux Champ Super SWB, a compact, short wheelbase variant of the Hilux Champ, in Thailand. This new model joins the Hilux Champ range, which was introduced in 2023 with a focus on cost-effectiveness and durability.
The Hilux Champ Super SWB is the most maneuverable variant of the Hilux Champ, with a 2.58-meter frame and an exterior length of 4.52 meters. It is designed for the Thai market, offering a more affordable option with a starting price of around €15,300.
The Super SWB comes with a 150 horsepower 2GD-FTV turbo diesel engine, regardless of the wheelbase chosen. It features a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, along with a leaf-sprung solid rear axle for enhanced off-road capabilities. Despite its compact size, it offers a 1.87-meter long loading area, usable in its entirety without wheel arch interference.
However, the Hilux Champ Super SWB is not as off-road capable as the regular Toyota Hilux due to its modest 14-inch tires. It is available only as a work vehicle with a single cabin and basic interior features to reduce costs, making it unsuitable for Northern European markets that require a heater.
The Toyota Hilux Champ Super SWB is a compact, affordable work vehicle designed for the Thai market. It offers a balance of cost-effectiveness, durability, and maneuverability, with a focus on practicality for work purposes. Despite its limitations in off-road capabilities and lack of heater, it serves its intended purpose well in its target market.
