Trump and Starmer join forces on a massive, multi-billion dollar tech collaboration - Trump and Starmer seal a $1 billion deal in technology collaboration
During President Trump's recent state visit to the UK, a significant tech partnership was announced, marking the largest investment package in British history. The partnership, valued at £150 billion over several years, involves US tech giants and financial institutions.
The centrepiece of this partnership is a collaboration between Trump and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer. This collaboration aims to facilitate new collaborations between government bodies, academia, and the private sector in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI).
Google has committed to investing $5 billion in AI over the next two years, while US investment firm Blackstone plans to invest £90 billion in British projects over the next decade.
One of the key initiatives to emerge from this partnership is the UK version of the US AI infrastructure project 'Stargate'. This project, signed by Palantir Technologies Inc. and the UK Ministry of Defence on September 19, 2025, will see Palantir investing £1.5 billion in the UK and finalizing a five-year contract worth £750 million with the UK Ministry of Defence by the end of the year. The agreement aims to expand the use of Palantir's AI software in the UK.
London-based company Nscale, in partnership with AI firm OpenAI and US chipmaker Nvidia, will launch the UK version of Stargate. Nvidia will install 120,000 state-of-the-art GPU computer chips in the UK, making it the country with the most such chips in Europe.
Microsoft is also part of this tech revolution, planning to invest $30 billion in the UK over four years. Half of this investment will be allocated to cloud computing and AI infrastructure. The company aims to build the UK's largest supercomputer as part of its investments.
However, this partnership comes amidst pressure on pharmaceutical companies from the US government to manufacture domestically. In response, UK pharmaceutical giant GSK has announced plans to invest $30 billion (€25 billion) in the US.
This tech partnership is part of the 'Tech Prosperity Agreement', which also includes cooperation in the nuclear and aerospace sectors. The agreement is set to boost the UK's tech industry and strengthen the relationship between the US and the UK.
