The collaboration has already seen the successful rollout of drone delivery services in Christiansburg, Virginia, and Frisco, Texas. Over the past three years, DoorDash's partner, Flytrex, has landed over 200,000 meals at suburban households.
Flytrex is one of the leading drone delivery companies in the U.S. and one of four companies whose drones have been cleared by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to fly outside the line of sight of remote operators.
Uber did not disclose the amount of its investment in Flytrex, but the company's decision to invest in drone delivery underscores its commitment to innovation and growth in the delivery sector. Both Uber and DoorDash are investing in automating some deliveries, signalling a shift towards a more technologically advanced delivery industry.
